Dar es Salaam–based vocalists Cherri and Memy MJ step into the music scene from different paths yet with the same driving force at their core—the spirit of hustling and self-reinvention. Originating from the vibrant cultural shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro, the duo blends beauty, resilience, and artistry into a fresh presence within today’s evolving African music landscape.

From an early age, Cherri found her voice through music. Performing since childhood, she sharpened her craft on major platforms such as Bongo Star Search, where she appeared three times, and later refined her artistry at Tanzania House of Talents, one of Tanzania’s most respected creative academies. Alongside her musical journey, she also became a brand ambassador for the beauty company *Atsoko*. With several song releases and years of dedication to her craft, Cherri continues to evolve as a confident and distinctive voice within the industry.

Memy MJ, on the other hand, began her journey in front of the camera. Starting as a model in childhood, she built a remarkable portfolio that placed her in music videos for some of Tanzania’s most influential artists, including Diamond Platnumz, Mbosso, Rayvanny, Marioo, Darassa, Joh Makini, and Young Lunya. Years in the modeling spotlight gradually revealed another calling—music. During a studio visit with producer Daxo Chali, she recorded a demo that unexpectedly resonated with listeners. Encouraged by the producer and despite initial hesitation, she embraced the transition from model to singer. That moment marked the official birth of Memy MJ as a musical artist.
